PT Foundation wins prestigious Dr. Siti Hasmah Award 2008

PT Foundation Chairman Hisham Hussien received Dr. Siti Hasmah Award from
Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah.
PT Foundation
has been named the winner of the Dr. Siti Hasmah Award 2008.
Established in
1996 by the Malaysian AIDS Foundation, the award highlights outstanding
contributions made by organisations and individuals in addressing HIV/AIDS
in Malaysia.
PT
Foundation, formerly called Pink Triangle Sdn Bhd was registered on 21st
December, 1987. It was granted ‘Foundation’ status by the Ministry of Home
Affairs on 19th September 2000 and became registered as PT
Foundation (PTF). The belief in its mission has brought different
communities - celebrities and drug users, religious officials and sex
workers, policy makers and people living with HIV - together to fight for
humanity and the right of all people to live with dignity. Today, PT
Foundation has more than 200 volunteers from the different communities and
provides career opportunities for 50 staff.
The Women’s and
MakNyah Programme now covers Chow Kit, Melaka,
Kuantan, Ipoh and Kelantan. The programme has transformed the lives of
maknyahs by showing them that they are accepted for who they are, accorded
respect, care and love as well as have access to nutrition, shelter and
non-judgmental guidance. PTF has expanded their hospital-based peer support
services to reach out to marginalised communities living with HIV and AIDS
at Hospital Sungai Buloh and Hospital Kuala Lumpur. The
Positive Living Programme has also expanded to
include support groups.
The winning
prize is RM10,000 and a trophy specially designed by Mondial Rare Jewels.
For the first time, this year’s Dr Siti Hasmah Award,
named in honour
of the former First Lady, will have a fingerprint of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah
inscribed on the front panel.
“Recognising
excellence and long-term commitment to work having a direct impact on
HIV/AIDS, the award is an invaluable avenue to celebrate and encourage more
organisations and individuals to be more proactive, creative and committed
in their response to HIV/AIDS,” said Prof Dr. Adeeba Kamarulzaman, President
of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation. |
