"Generic AIDS drugs set to be imported"

The Star (www.thestar.com.my) (02/12/05)

THE Government plans to import anti-retroviral generic drugs, Health Ministry’s parliamentary secretary Lee Kah Choon said.

He told Datuk Dr Rahman Ismail (BN – Gombak) that drug addicts with HIV/AIDS would be required to pay RM180 a month for the anti-retroviral therapy, adding that the Government was already subsidising two other drugs for them.

Replying to a supplementary question by Dr Tan Seng Giaw (DAP – Kepong) he said without preventive and measures by 2015, the number of people with HIV/AIDS could go up to 300,000.

Currently, he said there were 65,000 people with HIV/AIDS including 7,500 who had died. There are 18 new cases daily.
