RISE up to help to create a better community in Malaysia.” This was the
message that was relayed during the East Is Red charity fund-raiser press
conference that was held on Nov 17 at Gerai the Café, twelveSI.
Present at the press conference were panel members and ambassadors for “East
is Red” Chef Wan and Gillian Hung, twelveSI general manager Sam Vijendra,
twelveSI marketing manager Jeannie Khoo, Hisham Hussein and Simon Foong, PT
Foundation chairman and Board of Trustee, respectively, and “East is Red”
corporate adviser Colin Ng.
“PT Foundation requires funds to run its programmes in giving information,
education and care services relating to HIV/AIDS and sexuality in Malaysia,”
said Hisham.
“We hope that through this charity fund-raising carnival, we will be able to
generate more funds and awareness of our programmes,” he said.
“twelveSI hopes to raise at least RM50,000 for PT Foundation’s various
programmes. This is just one of the many community service projects
undertaken by twelveSI as part of our corporate responsibilities towards
helping the less fortunate and marginalised folks in Malaysia. This year,
our focus is PT Foundation as they are a community-based, voluntary,
non-profit organisation that play a crucial role in HIV/AIDS awareness,”
said Vijendra.
“We have conceptualised the East is Red fund-raiser into a carnival event to
reach out to the public and the youth. By hosting and organising a
fund-raising event which is fun and with various activities like celebrity
cooking demonstration, booths selling mementoes, food and beverage, mini
tattoo parlour with Mardi Gras, cheerleading, break-dancing performance and
three DJs spinning on that event night, it would be able to reach out to
people from all walks of life ,” said Khoo.
“Each and everyone of us can do our part by contributing not only money but
our time and effort into generating greater awareness about the needs of
these marginalised sections of the community. We are proud to be associated
with this charity fund-raiser and hope that the public will come over on Nov
27 to twelveSI and help make this event a great success,” said Chef Wan and
Hung.
To emphasise the importance of the event, Datuk Marina Mahathir, a champion
of equal rights in Malaysia and the chairperson of the Malaysian AIDS
Council, will be the guest of honour at the event.
