"Minister putting AIDS plan in the proper perspective"
The Star (www.thestar.com.my) (06/12/06) IT IS refreshing to read Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s call for the critics and conservatives to butt out of the national fight against the HIV epidemic, “Chua: No time for critics” (The Star, Dec 1). As he said, this is a national fight against a highly infectious disease and as such there is no role for moralising. The influence of these people has already set the Malaysian fight against the spread of HIV back by 20 years. And to what end? All they have produced is untold agony for thousands of Malaysians and the delay will cause the cost of the fight to escalate. It is time the Government adopted a similar attitude to the “supposed problem” of what consenting adults do with each other in private. For any individual or organisation to think they have the right to interfere with situations as described is the ultimate invasion of privacy. Recent occurrences in this field have made Malaysia the laughing stock of the civilised world. I hate to think what sort of self righteous kinky voyeurs are attracted to the job of searching out these innocent people to expose their alleged misdemeanours. Back to News Page
