SEVERAL programmes for people with HIV/AIDS would be launched next year,
state Health, Welfare and Caring Society Committee chairman P.K. Subbaiyah
said.
He said the programmes would be implemented in three stages.
“The first stage involves the preparation of reading materials for the
public. We will come up with booklets that contain stories from families of
HIV/AIDS victims.
“The second stage is the drop-in centres programme for drug addicts to come
for counselling and treatment which does not involve the use of needles.
“The final stage is the recovery lane programme where there will be
opportunities for recovering drug addicts to work and sell things for a
living,” he said when launching the World AIDS Day at the children’s park in
Kampung Melayu in Penang recently.
Jubaidah Nagoor Pitchay, a staff nurse with Penang Hospital, received the
longest Involvement in Community Service award at the event.
