"Raising AIDS awareness"
The Star (www.thestar.com.my) (10/06/06) Are you safe from HIV/AIDS? Are you sure? These were among six probing questions “posed” by a group of student volunteers to traders and the public at the Pasar Chabang here recently. The questions were written on a “sandwich” board, which were hung from the boys’ shoulders as they walked around the market to distribute flyers on HIV/AIDS. The event was held in conjunction with the World AIDS Day celebration organised by the Terengganu Family Planning Board and the Malaysia AIDS Foundation at SK Losong. Persatuan Pengasih Malaysia Terengganu chapter project manager Wan Abdul Razak Wan Yaacob said the sandwich board was an effective way to create awareness among the public on the HIV/AIDS threat. “These questions will definitely jolt the minds of those who are reading it. “They will ponder on whether they are leading a high-risk life,” he said. Former drug addict Najib Harun, 42, gave a talk on his heroin addiction and how he kicked the habit. He also touched on the danger of contacting HIV/AIDS through the sharing of needles.
