THE Red Ribbon gala dinner, a traditionally much-awaited event, will be held
on Nov 5, at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.
Held for the fifth time, it promises to be a high-profile event with
exciting programmes lined up, including a special show by Malaysian-born
international designer Bernard Chandran.
Chandran’s show is themed “Fire and Ice” and will have famous socialites and
their daughters taking to the catwalk, donning the designer’s creations as
well as specially flown in jewellery by Chopard.
Red Ribbon Gala 2006 organising chairman Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir said:
“The jewellery pieces are one-of-a kind. Chopard has also donated some
luxury items, which will be auctioned off at the event to raise funds. We
are hoping to raise RM3mil for the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF).’’
More than 600 guests are expected to attend the event and funds raised will
be channelled to MAF’s programme, the Circle of Hope, which amongst others
includes the Paediatric AIDS Scheme, the People Living with AIDS Drug
Assistance and the People Living with HIV/AIDS Business Assistance schemes.
“The Red Ribbon Gala is about hope and giving. It is a great platform to
show you care towards these community of people,’’ added Marina.
She said since its inception in 1996, the event had always been prestigious
and, over the past 10 years, the gala had raised over RM6mil for HIV/AIDS
programmes in the country.
The MAF and MAC (Malaysian AIDS Council) will also be presenting the Dr Siti
Hasmah Award (DSHA) 2006 and the DaimlerChrysler Red Ribbon Media Awards (RRMA)
at the gala function.
Marina added that DaimlerChrysler would also be sponsoring a 10-day field
trip to South Africa for this year’s RRMA winners.
The principal sponsors for this year’s Red Ribbon Gala 2006 are Chopard
Malaysia, Bernard Chandran, DaimlerChrysler Malaysia, Malaysia Tatler and
Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.
Tables for 12 are priced at RM100,000 and tables for 10 are priced at
RM50,000 and RM25,000.
MAF patron Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Omar will grace the event and deputy
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be the chief guest.
