"A cool HIV/AIDS reminder"

The Star (www.thestar.com.my) (02/02/07)

KUALA LUMPUR: To promote awareness on HIV/AIDS among young people, Miss MalaysiaIndia Care Association distributed 15,000 sticks of ice-cream and 20,000 flyers on HIV/AIDS during Thaipusam at Batu Caves.

Some 20 association members clad in jeans and kurti (embroidered cotton top) gave out the goodies along with the health information to thousands of visitors in the last two days.

Miss MalaysiaIndia Care Association president Mohanaapriya Sina Raja said the event was part of the association’s “Get Real! Children Living with HIV/AIDS” campaign initiated by Miss MalaysiaIndia 2006 Dr Shalina Mohmad Hal Hajja.

“Our target is young people on the threshold of relationship, marriage and parenthood. We realise that there is a great need to remind them of lifestyle health-related issues,” said Mohanaapriya.

France Cooperation, HSBC and the Yayasan PT Foundation supported the campaign which is designed to reach out to those aged between 15 and 30.
