KELANTAN has had 5,297 HIV/AIDS cases in the past seven years, state Health
Committee chairman Takiyuddin Hassan told the state assembly yesterday.
He said that of the total, 4,979 were Malays, 152 Chinese, 32 Indians, 95
those of other races and 39 foreigners.
Takiyuddin said that in most cases the patient knew of the implications of
living a high-risk lifestyle but they still continued to practise it.
“Only a small number of those with the disease were innocent victims,” he
said.
Later, State Religious Affairs Committee chairman Hassan Mahmood got into a
brief shouting match with Azizzudin Hussein (BN-Mengkebang), who said the
state government had failed to uphold strong moral policies which resulted
in the high number of HIV/AIDS cases.
