Pemadam seeks special home for children with HIV
BESUT: The Federal Govern-ment should consider establishing a special home
for children who inherited the HIV virus from their parents.
In making the appeal, National Association for the Prevention of Drug Abuse
(Pemadam) Besut chapter deputy chairman Ram-lan Ali said these children were
being left in a lurch and were excluded from society through no fault of
theirs.
“There are also a number of these children who have been orphaned due to the
deaths of their HIV/AIDS afflicted parents,”
“We should have a special home for them, to provide shelter and support,” he
said.
Ramlan said the children could be placed in a special centre where their
welfare would be taken care of and they could receive education and
affection.
“We passed a resolution at the district Pemadam annual general meeting to
appeal to the Federal Government to set up a home for these children,” said
Ramlan who is also the state Community Development and Women Affairs’
committee de-puty chairman.
He said Pemadam was also working hard to get all Village Development and
Security Com-mittee members here to be part of its team.
“We are also calling upon Imams here to be members of our association and to
play a pro-active role in combating drug abuse,” he added.
