PETALING JAYA: Activities in memory of AIDS victims, those who have died and
those living with the virus, will be held at the Buddhist Maha Vihara,
various churches, major gurdwaras and Taoist centres in major towns and
cities today.
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and
Sikhism, which is a partner organisation of the Malaysian AIDS Council
(MAC), is organising the remembrance activities as part of the MAC's
International AIDS Memorial Day activities.
Council president Datuk Chee Peck Kiat said Buddhists would be remembered at
the Maha Vihara in Brickfields, the Christians at various churches, Sikhs at
various gurdwaras and Taoists at various centres in major cities and towns.
He said Hindus were remembered at various major temples in major cities and
towns on Friday.
“As a council we are also of the view that as individual faith-based
organisations we have an individual and collective role to fully support
those living with HIV/AIDS and their families with spiritual and practical
support,'' Chee said in a statement yesterday.
